Here is a montage of the fronts of two violas by Joseph Guarneri del Gesu.
The left one bears the same label as the violin of 1706, once owned by Horace Petherick.
The one to the right lives in Russia, and bears Guarneri del Gesu's label of emancipation, dated 1721.
The backs of both instruments measure under 15", taken over the arching.
