Instrument Bow Frogs Ornamented With Shields
« on: April 12, 2011, 12:55:53 PM »
Always on the lookout for 'interesting' old bows, I recently encountered one which bears very beautiful pearl shields to each face. So after much research @ www.cozio.com , and other online sources, I found a few images of bows mounted with similar frogs, all made by one or more of the earliest French masters.  Mine is included in each montage, so take a peek and see if you can spot it.

Attached is an image of three frogs inlaid with shields. One has been 'attributed to' a famous archetier of what some call the 'transitional' period, but whose known works are seldom seen. After a lengthy study of similar work by other masters of the same period, I am convinced the attribution is incorrect.
My question is:
Can anyone identify their country and city (or cities) of origin, or discern the maker or makers?
