Hello Jed,

If you have 30 years of experience, you can judge for yourself what violinmaker it is.
If you say it is a Nicolo Amati, who in the world can proof it isn't?

Ultimately people will believe what they want to hear based on a set of
influencing factors which have nothing to do with expertise or truth. More to do with who says it.

There now, Mr. Murphy! Take a little comfort. The ranks of "who says it" seem to be thinning a bit. One charlatan is dead and another may soon be dead, if he gets caught by those looking for his sorry (fiddle stealing) hide. And yet another, we learn, has not the first drop of blood relation to his "illustrious and esteemed" fiddle dealing ancestors. Also we can learn that a certain "most respected" of all the fiddle traders (who ever lived) is now usurping (quite valid) Hill certificates. Fancy that!

I have set up another board where we can discuss Italian violins and the like....and named it
"Italian violins". It was time for a new title and we were hogging the "general discussion board" just a bit.
