Atelierviolins
We are very pleased to now be trading from our new home and workshop in the delightful surroundings of the Bushey countryside, Hertfordshire. We make about ten new instruments a year as well as carrying out regular repair and restoration of fine violins, violas, cellos and basses. Other work includes the making of carbon fibre bows and some violin teaching. We also organise the Fiddle Hell event which takes place once or twice a year and attracts many players, makers and fans.
All of our instruments are handmade and carry on the principles and working methods of the old masters, embodying the highest standards of craftsmanship. Each instrument is a unique creation and can vary in materials, finish and tone, depending on the customer's desire. The tonal quality we seek is of a warm dark colour, rich in harmonics and one that Gerard associates with old Italian fiddles. We also make exact copies of old instruments for clients who feel safer having a second instrument.
The people who influenced my art were, Patricia Naithsmith, William Luff and Padraigh Cleirigh who was my metalwork teacer in the 70's.
These were the greatest people I have ever met.
